Living the AuDHD Life
Two neurotypes in one brain, constantly negotiating.
"Managing AuDHD is like being the mediator in a constant argument between two parts of yourself who want completely different things." — AuDHD adult
The Daily Battle
| Autism Says | ADHD Says |
|---|---|
| Follow the routine | But I'm BORED |
| Finish what you started | But new shiny thing! |
| We need predictability | We need stimulation |
The goal isn't harmony—it's functional chaos.
Strategies That Work
Flexible structure: Same TIME for activity, different activity can rotate. Anchors not chains.
Rotation system: Multiple routines that rotate predictably.
External brains: Visual task boards, timers everywhere, calendar alerts.
Get a visual timer. Your brain needs to SEE time passing.
Body Doubling
Having someone present while working makes tasks possible. See Executive Function for details.
Task Initiation
- 5-minute rule ("just 5 minutes")
- Make first step TINY
- Change location to restart brain
- Lower the bar ("I'll do this badly just to start")
Energy Reality
You're running TWO demanding systems.
- Build in recovery BEFORE you need it
- Variable capacity is normal
- Three tasks in one day might BE a lot
